Eastern Shore-House Style by Lauren

It's Spring cleaning and also Spring ReDesign! I always get the itch to update the style of my main living areas while I tidy up from winter. People think my house is a Farm House style but I don't think it is, I very much see the influence, but I consider my style Eastern SHORE-HOUSE style.

There is something special about Maryland's eastern shore. A unique mash up of aesthetics and contributors.

On a large scale there is a nautical influence from the Chesapeake Bay. Strong ties to crabbing, fishing, sailing and the Naval Academy produce a coastal quality to a lot of the local style. Then you can mix in nods to the area's rich historical past. In 1631 Kent Island became the first permanent European Settlement. Later in the colonial resistance to British rule, Marylanders had their own "tea party," in 1774 in Chestertown when the tea-carrying ship Peggy Stewart was burned in Annapolis harbor. (visit the Chestertown Tea Party May 26!) The shore has many stories and we see that era in our early architecture. You can take both of those and toss in the last part of the style recipe. Rural and agricultural texture. Rolling fields of corn and soybeans. Horse farms and old barns. Chicken coops, tractors and farm stands.

I used all of these influences when decorating our family home. Blue crabs, Maryland maps, greenery, barn wood and metal work. These are some of my favorite style pieces that can be easily found on AMAZON.  Update your Spring interior with raw textures, clean lines and some plants life. TIP: Bringing green inside whether real or faux always brightens the space. Add some herb planters or mason jars to the kitchen counter. Really want to go for it? Repaint. My favorite Shore house colors are all from Sherwin Williams. Left to Right;  Alpaca (light greige), sea salt (neutral green tone), Greek Villa (Soft cream).   I hope this helps you create the Shore-House style of your dreams, this is a great way to stage your home for sale too. Really invite people in with the hospitality of the Eastern Shore.

xoxo, Lauren
